Aligned with NAU’s mission “to develop solutions to challenges and drive innovation in a supportive, inclusive, and diverse environment,” the College of Education¿seeks to build on our strength in preparing culturally responsive educators. We are hiring five new tenure-track faculty who are experienced or emergent researchers, committed to addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and access in Arizona PK-20 educational institutions. These faculty positions are part of a new initiative at NAU¿to foster equity and to promote the success of our diverse undergraduate and graduate student populations. Successful applicants will have a doctoral degree in areas of need as identified in the qualifications section, a record of research productivity, and a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching and mentoring. We particularly encourage applications from individuals who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color), disabled, veteran, and/or LGBTQ+. With Arizona’s changing demographics, the largest population of students in the state’s public schools are Latinx, and along with Indigenous students representing 22 federally recognized tribes, the College of Education is focused on preparing individuals who can contribute to academic preparedness, positive educational outcomes, school climate, and fostering college-going and completion rates in economically and racially diverse communities. We seek candidates who ground their work in issues of equity, power, and justice to contribute to the College’s goal of developing professionals who implement anti-racist, culturally responsive, inclusive, and equitable practices. Relevant background for the positions includes expertise in one or more issues of race, culture, class, gender, language, disability and sexuality. Successful candidates will have experience and a research focus centering Indigenous and/or Latinx communities, issues, histories, and/or epistemologies. Job Description
|
|
The individual selected for this position will be located at the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus. Teaching responsibilities include in person and online undergraduate and graduate courses. Other responsibilities include mentoring part-time instructors, involvement in clinical partnerships, assisting with accreditation efforts, attending, and participating in department and college events, participating in the development of field-based math programs throughout the region and state and maintaining a personal program of scholarship, research, and service. The successful candidate will have a well-demonstrated ability to teach effectively to a diverse student population and work with other diverse internal and external groups. Course delivery formats could include hybrid, and web-based instruction. |

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. More information on benefits at NAU is available at the NAU HR benefits page. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
