The STEM Education Department Head is a thought leader who sets the strategic direction for the department, in support of the vision and mission of the College of Education and NC State University. The Department Head also provides leadership to faculty and staff in the department by supporting and building community, and by providing a vision for programming growth and improvement. The Department Head is responsible for departmental budgeting, budget control, and all staffing, and oversees all administrative matters and departmental processes.

The associate director of mathematics will work closely with the Director of Upper School to help develop Ascend's Common Core-aligned math program. He or she adapts, curates, and paces research-based curricula; creates and refines assessments; develops and delivers professional development in these curricula to school directors, deans, and math teachers; and, in collaboration with the schools team, uses academic data to adjust and focus curriculum development and professional development.
