Berkeley's two programs, Education in Mathematics, Science, and Technology (EMST) and the Graduate Group in Mathematics & Science Education SESAME) are two pioneering programs in cogntive science, emphasizing thinking and learning in subject matter domains such as mathematics.  Our students have uniformly gone on to high-powered academic positions. A main emphasis of the current mathematics education efforts is on issues of diversity.
