The Penn State mathematics education program was a partner in the Mid-Atlantic Center for Mathematics Teaching and Learning. Penn State has strong doctoral emphases in: use of technology in mathematics teaching and learning; development of secondary teacher mathematics and pedagogical knowledge;
mathematics teacher education; development of mathematical understandings in elementary, secondary, and early college students.

Strong candidates for admission to the doctoral program have significant mathematics background and significant experience teaching mathematics.
