AMMTE (Maryland)

The Association for Maryland Mathematics Teacher Educators hosted a member meeting on September 9th, 2022 at Morgan State University. We had over 30 participants join us for this event. This included teacher educators and district partners from across the state of Maryland as well as four students from Morgan State who were able to add student voice in our small group discussions. In the morning session Dr. Julius Davis provided a keynote presentation entitled “Examining Mathematics Education through a Critical Race Theory Lens”. In the afternoon session we hosted Dr. John Staley who spoke about “Social Justice in the Mathematics Classroom”. We closed the day by offering several free books to our participants and advertising our upcoming election for four open positions (President Elect, Treasurer, Member-at-Large, and K-12 Representative).

We are currently planning to host an Early Career Teaching Conference in February 2023. This space allows current teacher education students as well as alum of our programs to present and share their wisdom with other early career teachers. We started this event back in 2015 and we are looking forward to hosting it again after a hiatus due to the pandemic.

Our Maryland affiliate is looking forward to seeing many of our members at the NCTM regional conference in Baltimore on December 1st and 2nd.

AMTE-NV (Nevada)

The Nevada Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators elected two members-at-large, Glenn Waddell (University of Nevada, Reno) and Rachel Bower (Nevada State College). The AMTE-NV Board met this fall to plan a virtual symposium to share the Get the Facts Out presentation. AMTE-NV plans to hold this virtual symposium in the upcoming year. AMTE-NV is also establishing working relationships with other regional mathematics teacher organizations, including the Northern Nevada Math Council and the California Mathematics Council – North. We hope to collaborate around our shared goal of establishing a strong community of math educators and math teachers in our state.

NYSAMTE (New York)

The New York State Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (NYSAMTE) held its first annual business meeting in October. Immediately following the meeting, NYSAMTE held its first Educators Exchange, an opportunity for members to share thoughts and ideas on issues in mathematics teacher education. The topic for this meet-up was the New York State Education Department’s recent elimination of the edTPA requirement for certification. New York State-registered teacher preparation programs have until September 1, 2023 to develop or choose a teacher performance assessment to replace edTPA. Debra Calvino, 2010 New York State Teacher of the Year and current student teacher supervisor at Mount Saint Mary College, joined the conversation to share experiences from her participation in a pilot of the college’s newly-created teacher performance assessment. We are currently planning our spring calendar. To learn more about NYSAMTE, please visit our website at NYSAMTE.org or email us at info@nysamte.org

WI-AMTE (Wisconsin)

The Wisconsin Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (https://wiamte.org) held their second annual conference at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in October 2022, with a theme of "Building Partnerships: Working to Establish Effective K-16 Relationships to Recruit, Develop, and Support Quality Mathematics Teaching in Wisconsin". This two-day in-person conference featured an invited address by Josh Recio of the Dana Center at UT Austin, and was attended by 42 people representing school districts, higher education and state agencies.

Last Spring's four-part online Book Study discussed Invigorating High School Math: Practical Guidance for Long-Overdue Transformation, by Steve Leinwand and Eric Milou.

Our monthly online Dynamic Discussions for the 2022-23 academic year are focused on "Mathematics Coaching to Strengthen Content Knowledge, Pedagogical Practice, and Beliefs".
