Transforming an Idea into an AMTE Publication: Getting Feedback

Special AMTE Publications Session at the 2021 Annual Conference

Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 (1:30-3:30 pm, Eastern)

At this year’s conference will have a special two-hour session designed to help prospective authors be better informed about manuscript expectations for AMTE publications. This session is intended to provide feedback to potential authors for the quality improvement of their ideas for manuscripts for AMTE’s publications–Mathematics Teacher Educator (MTE), Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education-Math (CITE-M), and Connections. Feedback will focus on clarifying expectations for the relevant publication regarding scope, format, and the intended audience.

The session will be organized around 15-minute “mini-sessions.” During these mini sessions, a potential author will meet with Editorial Panel members from the relevant publication to discuss feedback: you can either just bring an idea to discuss OR you can send a 1-2 page outline of a manuscript in advance for more targeted feedback.

To assist AMTE members who are not able to sign up in advance for a mini-session, at least one editor from each publication will also be available for “zoom-ins” during the session to answer more general questions relative to an idea or submission and publication processes for the respective journals. Additionally, the Vice President for Publications will be available to support editors and provide drop-in feedback to prospective authors interested in submitting a proposal for the AMTE’s Professional Book Series.

Finally, we will also hold a separate 2-hour session on Thursday, Feb. 11 (12-2 pm, Eastern) for additional 15-min appointments for the MTE journal (by appointment only), for those who cannot attend the session on Feb. 20.

Potential authors will be encouraged to sign-up as early as they can. If you would like to schedule an appointment and/or submit an outline in advance, email the AMTE Vice President for Publications, Babette Benken (babette.benken@csulb.edu). Outlines must be submitted no later than Monday, January 18, 2021, 11:59 PM (Pacific).
