(MAT)^2

(MAT)^2 will be having its spring meeting on May 23rd at the University of Central Missouri.

AMTEA (Alabama)

AMTEA (Alabama) is having our spring meeting on May 28th from 10-3. It looks like we will have at least 20 in attendance and 4-5 have already opted for the zoom (call in) option. Of the approximately 20 people in attendance, 10 or so have never been to a meeting nor heard of AMTEA or AMTE, so I am super excited to hopefully build our membership after this meeting!

MI-AMTE (Michigan)

The theme of the 2019 MI-AMTE Conference hosted by Hope College on March 16, 2019, was A Solid Foundation: Developing a Shared Vision for Professional Growth. Nearly 55 teachers, school district leaders, and college faculty from across the state joined and participated in the conference. The keynote speakers, Mike Steel (President of AMTE) and Ziv Feldman (Boston University) framed our conversation on the AMTE’s Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics and teacher education programs. Sixteen breakout sessions provided lively exchanges and discussions about issues related to mathematics education, mathematics teacher education in general, and issues unique to teacher preparation in Michigan. The closing session featured Meghan Shaughnessy, Nicole Garcia, Jane Porath, and Shari Stockero as they led the panel discussion to develop a shared vision for professional growth. We thank Eric Mann (Conference Chair, Hope College) very much for organizing this great conference.

Some of our current and past board members can be seen in the picture below: John Gruver (Member At Large), Jane Porath (Secretary), Carla Tayeh (Treasurer), Charlene Jones (Graduate Student Representative), Judith Jacobs (Past Treasurer), Kristen Bieda (Past Member At Large), S. Asli Özgün-Koca (President), and Matt Wyneken (Past President).

PAMTE (Pennsylvania)

PAMTE held its 13th annual symposium May 15th and 16th at Shippensburg University. There were 39 attendees from across Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware. The Keynote Address was given by Diane Briars, past President of NCTM, and the Plenary Session was given by Mark Wolfmeyer from Kutztown University.  Fun, fellowship and lots of learning were had by all.

WI-AMTE (Wisconsin)

The big activities in WI-AMTE are:

1) Monthly Dynamic Discussion on key topics from the field of mathematics education. The topics have included problem solving, formative assessment, and discourse. The resources and videos can be found at: http://https://wiamte.org/?page_id=127

2) The development of professional development videos around College and Career Readiness. Two videos with resources have been posted. More will be posted this summer:  http://wiamte.org/?page_id=198.
