Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science and Technology is conducting an open search for a tenure track faculty line, for anyone with background in math, physics, or philosophy who is committed to promoting the success of underrepresented students in the sciences. As part of an initiative to hire leading research scientists with a strong commitment to promoting the success of underrepresented students in the sciences, the Schmid College of Science and Technology at Chapman University announces a tenure track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective August 2023 in the discipline of Mathematics, Physics, or Philosophy. 

 

Chapman University, located in the heart of Orange County, California, offers traditional undergraduate programs in the arts and sciences and select pre-professional and graduate programs. The university is a nationally ranked R2 research institution with a commitment to excellence through world-class research and innovative teaching. Schmid College of Science and Technology serves an increasingly diverse body of students engaged in Biology, Biochemistry & Chemistry, Computational and Data Science, Environmental Science and Policy, Food Science and Nutrition, Mathematics, Physics, and Philosophy. The college is housed in the Keck Center for Science and Engineering.

 

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a field relevant to Mathematics, Physics, or Philosophy, and have outstanding records of scholarly publications, research support, and a history of commitment to the mentorship of students from underrepresented and underserved populations. The successful candidate will be expected to continue their active research program and mentoring activities, as well as help design, implement, and assess innovative new programs that lead to demonstrable advances in diversity, equity, and inclusion for our students, faculty, and staff. Service and teaching expectations will not exceed those of any other faculty position. Faculty appointments will be made at the Assistant Professor rank with current academic standing in one of the College’s academic programs.
