TECHNOLOGY AWARD
The Benjamin Banneker Association, Inc. in partnership with the Texas Instruments, Inc. is pleased to announce awards of $3000 for innovative use of technology in the mathematical education of pre-service or in-service teachers. Mathematics educators and mathematicians at community colleges, colleges and universities are eligible to apply. The award must be used during the 2005-06 academic year or the summer of 2006.
Suggested activities and uses of the funds could include:
* Purchase of graphing technology,
* Purchase of professional development to learn
- how to integrate the effective use of handheld technology in a mathematics curricula,
- about new teaching methods using handheld technology,
- how mathematical understanding can be enhanced with technology,
- how to use technology to implement appropriate instructional changes in classrooms ;
* Collaborations with faculty and/or graduate students to create a course module that integrates the use of graphing technology in a teacher education course.
Applications must include the following:
1. Name, street address, city, state and zip code,
2. Home and work telephone numbers, fax number and e-mail address.
3. School, position and description of the class or in-service activity,
4. Summary of the project-maximum one page,
5. Description of the proposed activity-maximum two pages, and
6. Detailed budget with necessary explanations.
There is no application form.
