Toyota International Teacher Program

This program is a fully funded 2-week study tour of Japan sponsored by
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.  Toyota sponsors 50 full time secondary
teachers, grades 9-12, from Alabama, California, Indiana, Kentucky,
Michigan, Missouri, and West Virginia to learn first-hand about education,
culture, environment and technology of Japan and how these affect industry
and society.

The 2003 program will begin June 19th with an orientation at Toyota Motor
Sales USA, Inc. headquarters in Torrance, California.  Participants then
head to Tokyo for several days to see the most modern side of Japan, while
focusing on the education system with in-school visits as well as looking at
environmental projects in the city.  The group will take an in-depth look at
the culture and education system though visits to various sites in Japan's
former capital, Kyoto, as well as other culturally and historically
important areas such as Hiroshima and the Iya Valley on the island of
Shikoku.  The study tour also includes time at Toyota's headquarters in
Toyota City where they learn about the automobile industry and its
development in Japan and throughout the world. Participants return to the US
on July 5th 2003.

The Toyota International Teacher Program is designed to extend far beyond
the educators who participate.  Participants are asked to commit themselves
to sharing what they have learned about Japan and international encounters
with their students, colleagues and schools.
