Title: Curriculum Implementation Program Director

Start Date: Immediate

 

EDCÕs Division of Mathematics Learning and Teaching seeks to hire a Program Director to design, implement, manage, and coordinate a variety of activities centered around implementing new mathematics curricula in schools across the country (one in grades K-5 and another in grades 9-12).   These curricula are designed to engage both students and teachers in the teaching and learning of mathematics by doing mathematics and learning to think mathematically. The Program activities are to be carried out  by EDC staff,  publisher partners, districts in which our curricula are being considered or used, and  Universities and other organizations with whom we have collaborations.

 

This is a 100% time position in a leadership role.  The DirectorÕs responsibilities will include:

¥ Supervise a staff, small in our early stages, who engage in supporting or implementing Program tasks.

¥ Plan and implement summer institutes for teachers:  create systems for registering teachers, hire and coordinate a staff for running the institutes, and ensure that the institutes meet the needs and interests of schools, publishers, and EDC.

¥ Plan and coordinate the development of web-based support for our curricula: design and deliver web-based support and professional development.

¥ Coordinate research activities and collect evidence of impact or other research results that reflect on our curricula.

¥ Coordinate liaisons between our publishers and our development teams:  ensure that there are people ready to travel to sales meetings, publisher events, and conferences.

¥ Assist in the development of new proposals to extend our work or support the activities in our Implementation Center.

¥ Attend to an assortment of other needs and opportunities as they arise.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for a mathematically minded person, someone who likes to work with mathematics and likes to work with learners and teachers of mathematics.  MasterÕs Degree preferred with at least three years of experience in coordinating programs.   Experience with providing support for mathematics teachers or other technical assistance to schools is expected.  Experience with curriculum development, support, or other activities is also expected. The Program Director must have strong management and budgetary skills.  Also, the Program Director must have strong communication and writing skills. This position requires a person who is very strong at organizing information and managing multiple tasks and communications.  Additionally, we want strong interpersonal and analytical skills. Flexibility and the ability to work with a team toward a common goal are essential.

MLTÕs project work focuses on mathematics content, classroom pedagogy and assessment, district and state standards, and effective roles for technology in mathematics education. We create materials; design professional development approaches and systems for teachers, administrators, and other leaders; and inform the field through our research, development, evaluation, and capacity-building activities.
