POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

 

University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications and nominations for the position of TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION.

 

UH-Clear Lake, one of four independent universities that constitute the University of Houston System, is located in modern facilities adjacent to the NASA/Johnson Space Center midway between Houston and Galveston in the developing center of Bay Area Houston, Texas.  UH-Clear Lake is an upper-division and graduate institution with an enrollment of approximately 7,800 and includes Schools of Education, Business, Human Sciences and Humanities, and Science and Computer Engineering.  Enrollment in Education is approximately 2,100 with 60% at the graduate level. UHCL is one of only eleven NCATE accredited institutions in the State of Texas.

 

TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION starting Fall 2007 (or earlier).  Candidates must have an earned doctorate with primary emphasis in mathematics education. Exceptional doctoral candidates who are ABD will receive consideration. A demonstrated record of research, scholarly publications and grant writing or a clear indication of potential for success in these areas is required.  Excellent oral communication skills in English are also required as is a minimum of three years of U.S. public school teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants with Pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade teaching experience and to those who also have experience in teaching elementary mathematics methods courses with field-based components. 

 

Major responsibilities include:  (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade mathematics methods, (2) maintaining an active research and publication agenda, (3) supervising and serving on master’s thesis and project committees, (4) serving on university committees and other service activities.
