MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT

 

Applications are invited for two tenure-track positions in Mathematics Education. The department seeks candidates with research interests in the teaching and learning of mathematics, the role of technology in mathematics education, the impact of professional development on the achievement of students, or interdisciplinary approaches to mathematics education. Applications invited for

 

1.      Associate/Full Professor (V # F19): The candidate will support existing departmental Mathematics Education programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, teach courses and mentor students in the EdD in Pedagogy, Specialization in Mathematics Education. Evidence of a strong record of scholarly publication and research, of success obtaining extramural funding, of involvement with professional organizations, and of teaching excellence should be presented. Preferred qualifications include successful teaching at the 6 – 12 level. 

2.      Assistant Professor (V # F20): The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education, undergraduate courses in mathematics, mentor master’s candidates and become involved in the pursuit of external funding, and professional development activities. Evidence of a developing record of scholarly publications and research and evidence of teaching excellence should be presented. Preferred qualifications include successful teaching at the K – 12 level, especially at the middle school level.

 

A doctorate in Mathematics Education or Mathematics with significant work experience in mathematics education and a background in mathematics at the master’s level is required. Responsibilities include teaching courses in mathematics including some taken by mathematics majors, supporting undergraduate and graduate students seeking their initial certification to teach school mathematics, teaching coursers taken by graduate students in the MS Mathematics, concentration in Mathematics Educations and the MA and post-baccalaureate certificate in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics. Applicants must have a strong commitment to quality teaching in a broad range of courses at the undergraduate level and to a more specialized set of graduate courses.

 

Starting date is September 1, 2007.

 

The Department of Mathematical Sciences includes undergraduate programs in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Physics; Master’s programs in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Statistics and participates in the Ed.D. in Pedagogy with a Specialization in Mathematics Education. There are twenty-nine full-time faculty. Montclair State University is the second largest public university in New Jersey and is located 15 miles west of New York City.
