Science Education Position

The Indiana University School of Education in Indianapolis seeks a highly capable, tenure track faculty member who will contribute to the Urban Center for the Advancement of Science/Mathematics Education (UCASE) through research and development, innovative instruction, program development, and service to the professional community. IU ' s School of Education is physically located in Indianapolis and in Bloomington .  Faculty in science education across both campuses form study groups and work together on program development and leadership for the IU system.  As a national leader in educational research, IU ' s School of Education offers ample opportunities for collaborative research and professional growth. The School of Education in Indianapolis is part of IUPUI ( Indiana University-Purdue University , Indianapolis ), a large urban research campus in the heart of the attractive and dynamic downtown area.

The teacher education program at Indiana University provides a variety of opportunities and structures for faculty to work in the preparation of new teachers.   Faculty and graduate students in science education inquire into a broad range of areas including student learning, teaching, curriculum, social issues, and developing partnerships.  Collaborative work with colleagues within the department, in school settings, in community organizations, and in other departments across the university is valued as is the development of grants for external funding.

Responsibilities: Candidates will be expected to teach K-12 undergraduate and graduate courses in science education as well as promote the vision and mission of UCASE, which includes an active program of research, and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues in course development and in seeking outside funding for research and development grants.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in science education with preference given to candidates with public school teaching experience, a broad based background in science education, and preparation in the biological or physical sciences.  Candidates should show evidence of an active research agenda and have teaching experience including working with teachers in public school settings.
