English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education

The Indiana University School of Education in Indianapolis seeks a highly capable, tenure track faculty member with expertise in English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education. This person will contribute to the advancement of equitable education through research, innovative instruction, program development, and service to the community. The IU School of Education in Indianapolis is located on the campus of IUPUI ( Indiana University-Purdue University , Indianapolis ), a large urban research campus in the heart of a vibrant city.  The school, like the campus, is currently experiencing significant growth in many areas. It shares a core campus relationship with Indiana University , Bloomington , and close ties with cultural and social organizations, local schools and other university departments. Within the school, the Center for Urban and Multicultural Education (CUME) offers many opportunities for collaborative research and professional growth.  Faculty members in the school value diversity, critical pedagogy, global perspective, and responsive curricula that promote cultural democracy.

Like many other cities, the demographics of Indianapolis are changing radically and there is a need for quality ESL preparation.  Our graduate and undergraduate programs provide a variety of opportunities for both new and in-service ESL teachers.  An emergent group of ESL leaders is developing a strong professional voice and the skills and knowledge needed to establish habits of thoughtful practice. The School of Education recruits a wide-range of professionals into its Urban Certificate graduate program and provides support to Latina students and their families through the El Puente Project.  Collaborative work with colleagues and the community is valued, as is the development of grants for external funding.
