The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in August 2007 in Mathematics Education (secondary and elementary). An earned doctorate is preferred and is required for tenure; ABD may be considers. Experience in elementary/middle/high school as a teacheer, supervisor, or consultant in a K-12 setting is desirable. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and be familiar with the NCTM Standards.
Eastern Illinois University is primarily a teaching institution and faculty members typically teach 3 or 4 classes per semester. Class size usually ranges form 15 to 35. Classrooms have computer/media facilities, two computer labs are available in the department, and a mathematics resource center adjoins two mathematics education classrooms.
The department houses baccalaureate programs in mathematics, mathematics and computer science, and mathematics with teacher certification. In mathematics education, students can choose between a secondary or an elementary/middle level option. Faculty members frequently attend and present at professional organizations and conduct workshops for teachers.
