Position:

Applications are being solicited for a mathematics education faculty member appointment to begin January 2007. Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and record of professional achievement. Although we anticipate filling this position with a person at assistant or associate professor level, senior faculty candidates will be considered.

 

Qualifications:

Requirements for this position include a doctorate in mathematics education with the equivalent of a Master’s degree in mathematics or a Ph.D. in mathematics with extensive experience in mathematics education. Highly desirable candidates show: a minimum of three years teaching in an online learning environment; a minimum of three years teaching experience in a pre-college environment; work with pre-service and/or in-service mathematics teachers; a record of acquiring external funding; administrative experience; and evidence of publication. Research interests should include mathematics education, particularly for middle school and/or at-risk students, and the uses of technology in the delivery of such.

 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the instructional, research and service missions of the department through the following:

  • Teach graduate level courses in mathematics education, undergraduate mathematics courses for teachers, and other courses as determined by the department chair
  • Supervise master's and/or doctoral level student research
  • Engage in research, grant writing and other scholarly activities in mathematics education and related areas
  • Provide service, outreach, and leadership to local, state and national educational agencies, professional organizations, and learned societies
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and across colleges to improve the preparation of teachers to teach mathematics and science.
  • Develop uses of educational technology as it applies to mathematics and mathematics education.
