The Department of Mathematics at Plymouth State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics Education starting August 2007 at the Assistant Professor level.  We seek a dynamic colleague committed to fostering teaching excellence and student development in a program that values creativity, collaboration, learner-centered pedagogy, and diversity. 

The new faculty member will join a collaborative group of three full-time mathematics educators.  Our faculty is involved in outreach and professional development partnerships with K-12 schools throughout the state.

 

Duties & Responsibilities: This position offers an excellent opportunity to explore innovative ideas with regard to the education of teachers of elementary through secondary mathematics.  The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach 12 contact hours per semester to undergraduate students.  Primarily, the position involves working with content courses and methods courses for K-12 teachers.  Other duties will include participating in service activities internal and external to campus (program assessment for state and national accreditation, supervising student teachers, advising students, serving on department and university committees, etc.), writing grant proposals, and developing partnerships with K-12 mathematics educators through the NH-IMPACT Center (http://www.plymouth.edu/graded/nhimpact/) at Plymouth State University.  We seek an individual with expertise in teaching diverse learners and/or integrating technology with instruction.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate in Mathematics Education by August 2007 or equivalent in a related field
  • Evidence of scholarly potential
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

 

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

  • K-12 public school teaching experience
  • An equivalent of a Master’s in Mathematics or Statistics
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • University level teaching experience using student-centered learning strategies.
