MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University invites applications for the following tenure-track position beginning August, 2008.

            Qualifications for the position include the following:

1.         Earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related area;

2.         Ability to teach mathematics education in the undergraduate and graduate elementary and middle grades programs;

 

3.         Record of teaching experience required; public school and university level teaching experience preferred;

4.         Evidence of scholarly potential required, established record of scholarship/creative activity preferred;

5.         Commitment to working in a community of practice, to a social constructivist perspective of teaching and learning, to the integration of field experiences in professional coursework and to working with diverse populations;

            6.         Eligibility for North Carolina teaching license.

Specific duties and responsibilities: Teach a variety of courses in the elementary and middle grades program areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels primarily in mathematics education; participate in partnerships with area schools; advise undergraduates. Some teaching may be at off-campus sites. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
