POSITION: |
The Department of Curriculum
and Instruction at Purdue University seeks an assistant or associate
professor of mathematics education with an emphasis on secondary education
(6-12). This is an academic year, tenure track position. |

DISTINCTIVE
CHARACTERISTICS OF INDIVIDUALS SOUGHT: |
We seek to attract a
mathematics educator who will play a major role in developing innovative
programs and projects in conjunction with the College of Education, the
College of Science, the Center for Research and Engagement in Science and
Mathematics Education (CRESME), the I-STEM Resource Network, and the
Discovery Learning Center. We seek a person who demonstrates or exhibits the
potential to have a distinguished record of research in mathematics education
to add to a multi-talented community of faculty members who are familiar with
a variety of disciplinary perspectives, educational settings, and cutting-edge
research. |

QUALIFICATIONS: |
A doctorate in mathematics
education or related field including graduate-level study in mathematics is
expected. An active record of scholarship and productivity commensurate with
experience is required. School mathematics teaching experience is expected.
The capacity to work in mathematics education with a secondary school
emphasis (grades 6-12) is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will
be a forward-looking individual who will take a leadership role in continuing
to build a strong secondary mathematics teacher education program. |

RESPONSIBILITIES AND
OPPORTUNITIES |
Responsibilities
include teaching undergraduate as well as graduate courses in mathematics
education, coordination of student teacher supervision, conducting appropriate
scholarship, and providing service to the institution. Pursuit of external funding in
support of research and engagement activities is strongly encouraged. Opportunities include: á
Participating in
research and engagement projects associated with CRESME, the Discovery
Learning Center, and the I-STEM Resource Network. á
Participating in
additional cross-disciplinary collaborations within the College of
Education, across the
university, and in schools. á
Developing innovative
programs and projects for both preservice and inservice teachers. |
